SOMERSET Women were back in Metro Bank One Day Cup action against Hampshire at the Cooper Associates County Ground on Saturday and at the end of the 50 over per side match it was the visitors who triumphed by 39 runs.

After being put into bat first Hampshire posted 303 for seven with spinners Liv Barnes and Lola Harris claiming three for 54 and two for 56 respectively.

In reply Somerset fell just short despite Anika Learoyd making 87 from 83 ball with 10 fours and two 6s and Bex Odgers hitting 77 off 92 deliveries with 11 fours, the pair staging a second wicket stand of 161 in 25 overs, a record for the county in List A cricket.

However Amanda Jade Wellington returned to haunt the county she represented last season with figures of three for 52 as Somerset, well-placed at 199 for one, were eventually dismissed for a disappointing 264 in 46.3 overs.

Afterwards top scorer Anika Learoyd said: “This was a huge disappointment for the team. We thought we were cruising it when we had the partnership going but once we lost Bex it was a question of me staying out there, but I managed to get myself out.

“I think we gave them too many easy runs and let ourselves down in the field at times, and that’s something we pride ourselves on so that will be something that we will talk about in our post match meeting.”

This defeat left Somerset in sixth place in the Women’s Metro Bank table with 3 wins from their 9 matches from which they have taken 13 points, while Warwickshire found themselves fourth with 5 wins from their 9 matches from which they have accrued 22 points.
