WEST Somerset based Number 1 Gymnastic Club CIC - which is a community interest company - have worked hard this year to raise enough money to enable them to purchase new roll out mats for their gymnasts to use.

A successful Bingo Fund Raiser back in February 2026 raised £771.30 together with some funding from SASP, matched funding from the Gymnastic Club and also support from Minehead Motor Club enabled the purchase of three new roll out mats costing £550 each and an airtrack.

Suzanne Richards from Number 1 Gymnastic Club said: “It makes such a difference to the classes and the gymnasts and we are very pleased with our new set up.

“Ideally during the next school year we will fund raise to purchase one more rollout mat which will make it complete. We’d like to say a great big thank you to everyone who has helped us purchase these items. ”

Number 1 Gymnastic Club CIC hold a term time British Gymnastic Club on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, for beginners, Intermediate and advance, all of which take place at Minehead First School.

Anyone wanting to join one of the above sessions should please e-mail [email protected]

During the second week of the forthcoming summer holidays the Club will be running gymnastic workshops open to all children - further details will be available on the Number 1 West Somerset facebook page.

Gymnastics is a great sport and a splendid way of keeping fit, particularly for youngsters during the school holidays when there can be little to do to keep occupied.

The best age to start gymnastics depends on an individual’s goals - ages 3-4 are ideal for developing a baseline, ages 6-8 are best for mastering foundational competitive skills, and it is never too late to start casually.
