MINEHEAD Cricket Club are holding a special day this coming Saturday to celebrate the life of David Lethaby who passed away last September at the age of 62.

David was a much loved and well respected member of Minehead CC and the whole of the West Somerset community and was well known, having worked for estate agents Chanin and Thomas, Greenslade Taylor Hunt and more recently Wilkie `May and Tuckwood .

David was also one of the driving forces behind the building of Minehead’s new cricket pavilion at Lutterel Way, where the club now play their home matches.

The day will raise funds for the British Heart Foundation and a David Lethaby Memorial Bench and commences at 7am with a 12 hour endurance spin in the pavilion on spin bikes kindly loaned by the West Somerset Sports Centre, that has been organised by Suzanne Richards, which has already raised over £2,000.

There will be a Coffee Morning between 10am and 12 noon and then in the afternoon Minehead First XI are in action against Taunton Deane starting at 2pm, during which refreshments will be available and the bar open.

After the cricket local band Evolution will be playing in a marquee and there will be a bar and food available.

During the course of the evening there will be an auction of items that will be run by John Addicott who David worked with at Chanin and Thomas for many years.

Among the auction lots are a signed Somerset CCC shirt, a pair of tickets for an Exeter Chiefs' home match, a round of golf for four at Exeter Golf and Country Club and tickets for any SCCC one day cup or championship match.

Suzanne Richards said: “David was such a good friend to so many of us and this is our way of remembering him. How easy it has been to organise this event is a testament to how David lived his life and shows how much he was loved by everyone."

Suzanne, who is a now a spin cycle instructor, has organised the 12-hour sponsored event ,said: “I have known David a long time and early on I worked with him at Chanin and Thomas. In later years he has come to all of my spin classes and never missed a session- he always enjoyed it.

"I think that during the course of the day I have got all of David’s family taking part including his dad John, his two children, his brothers and his wife Jane will be doing the last hour with me.”
