MINEHEAD Tennis Club’s veterans B played Cheddar at home last Wednesday in their penultimate winter league match. Paul Rees and Phil Bastin played Michael Neslen and Richard Barnett in an extremely close match,  the score being 5-7, 7-5 with the Cheddar pair just edging it in the deciding championship tie break by 10 points to 8. The ladies doubles was a much more one sided affair with the Minehead pair of Judy Kay and Corinne Rees playing Faith Guest and Karen Barnett winning 6-0, 6-0.

In the mixed doubles Judy and Phil played Michael and Faith and enjoyed a comfortable win 6-2, 6-0 while Corinne and Paul had a much closer game against Karen and Richard eventually losing 6-3, 6-4. Overall Minehead won the match 5- -4, winning 43 games to Cheddar’s 27. Minehead 7 points, Cheddar 4.  

Summer League matches start at the end of April and Minehead will be fielding 4 mixed teams, 1 ladies team and 2 men’s teams. Club sessions for general play is on Tuesday and Friday evenings, Thursday mornings and Sunday afternoons. Rusty Rackets is Saturday afternoons and open to non-members with a small charge (£2.50) which includes tea and coffee. Anyone interested in playing tennis should contact Pete Bolla on 07792176118.
