MINEHEAD Reserves are out of the Taunton Saturday League’s KO Cup following a penalty shootout (4-2) after they fought out a 1-1 draw in the quarter-finals against fancied Galmington.

Minehead, with an almost full strength team, were soon into the game and the Premier League team were aware they were in for a tough game. The midfield of Vickers brothers Rob and Dan and Heaths Josh and Sam were equal to anything Galmington could throw at them.

However, after 20 minutes of very even play with keeper Nat Leader looking secure with the defence of Oli Reaney, Andy Gubb, Finn Landon and Myles Campbell-Farmer in front of him it was Galmington that scored first.

Young Haiden Griffiths and Scott Kivell were always a threat with their pace and it was Kivell who struck the bar with a fierce shot.

Half time came and went. Riley Pope on for the injured Griffiths. Within two minutes of the interval Sam Heath let fly from range only to see the shot again rebound back into play off the bar.

With the game in the balance it was the Blues who equalised with ten minutes to go through a fine run by Kivell who fired in on the run from a tricky angle.

While penalties looked likely Kivell was through again one on one with the keeper but a fine save left the final by score at 1-1.

Minehead, normally secure on penalties, were soon behind as Gubb’s was saved well. The Vickers brothers then both scored but some good Galmington penalties secured the win for them when Landon’s kick was saved. A valiant effort. Man of the match Scott Kivell.

Minehead: Nat Leader, Oli Reaney, Andy Gubb, Finn Landon, Myles Campbell-Farmer, Dan Vickers, Rob Vickers, Josh Heath, Sam Heath, Scott Kivell, Haiden Griffiths, subs: Riley Pope (used) Lyam Scheepers (not used).
