WATCHET & District Skittles League winners Bell All Stars successfully defended their Champion of Champions trophy with a commanding victory over the Dunster League’s Exmoor Horns in the big West Somerset skittles showdown at the Top Ship in Porlock.
The away side proved too strong throughout, running out winners by 105 pins in a match that was rarely in doubt. Bell All Stars posted a formidable final total of 660 against Exmoor Horns’ 555, with the visitors building an early platform of 394 at the halfway stage compared to the home side’s 278.
The standout performance of the evening came from Bell All Stars’ Warren Knight, who achieved the impressive feat of four consecutive spares in the first half — a highlight duly noted on the match card. Knight finished with the highest individual score of the night, an outstanding 127, in a superb team display.
Knight was well supported by his teammates throughout. Barrie Jones opened the away scorecard with 116, Adam Taplin contributed 119, and Andy Trunks added a solid 114. Andy Milton chipped in with 98, while Andy Bryant posted 97.
For Exmoor Horns, there were creditable performances from Gary Atkins and Kev Atkins, both finishing on 97, and Andrew Blackmore who led the home side with 96. Despite the efforts of the Horns’ team, the consistent quality of the Bell All Stars attack proved too much across all six pairings.
Both League committees would like to thank the Top Ship for their hospitality and generosity in the match.
Both the Watchet and Dunster Leagues take a well-earned break from league skittles before the resume again at the end of the summer.
Despite the loss of many alleys over the years, skittles remains a popular winter sport from many players in the area.
