WELLINGTON and Wiveliscombe both play their first rugby matches of the new season on Saturday, September 26, following the delayed start by the RFU.

Wellington lst XV entertain Old Redcliffians 2nd XV in Counties One Western North under new coach Simon Morrell and are expected to include a number of new players following relegation (3p.m.).

The 2nd XV, who also suffered relegation at the end of last season, are away to Hornets IV in Counties Four Somerset South.

Wiveliscombe make the trip to Crediton in Regional Two South West following last winter’s championship-winning season, while the 2nd XV are home to Somerton in Counties Three Somerset South (3p.m.).

Meanwhile Wellington’s footballers, bottom of the Premier Division in the Jewson Western League and already strong candidates for relegation, are away to eighth-placed Newquay who just missed out on the play-offs last season.

It ends a run of four home games by Wellington, who lost all four, scoring only once and conceding 23 goals.

Joe Conway returns to the management team which includes Georgina Purdy and Mike Hawes who have been in place since the departure of chairman Mike Hall who had been running the side in the absence of a manager.

Wellington Reserves, lying sixth in the Premier Division of the Devon & Exeter League, are home to second-placed Colyton who have taken maximum points from their opening four matches (3p.m.).

Wellington A are home to Nether Stowey Reserves in the Taunton & District Saturday League at Court Fields School (2p.m.).

Wellington Wildcats, who have lost their first two fixtures in the first division of the Somerset Women’s League, are away to Cheddar Ladies who have won their opening two games, scoring 16 goals - both away.
