MINEHEAD Barbarians produced a remarkable attacking performance to record a 101-42 win at Yatton RFC, running in 15 tries.

Director of Rugby Luke Milton was delighted with the performance, which saw the Barbarians translate another strong week on the training ground into an emphatic result.

Milton said: “We trained well again and Saturday it just clicked. Yatton couldn’t cope with our work ethic, attacking shape and threats.

“The forwards laid a great platform, enabling our backs to show off their skill and athleticism. Jacob Gower was outstanding, earning Man of the Match and scoring 54 points on his own. I thought Joel Lynch ran the show, while Sam Chinn and Mu-Eeed Fritz excelled at centre, playing out of their normal positions.

“Josh Cronin was also superb in his first start at blind-side flanker, while Will Griffin is growing in stature and confidence, scoring two tries of his own.”

It was a more challenging afternoon for the Second XV, who suffered a difficult home defeat against a strong Crewkerne side. Despite trailing 28-0 at half-time, the Barbarians showed tremendous character after the break, scoring four tries to secure a valuable bonus point.

Milton acknowledged the impact of injuries and unavailability on the squad but was encouraged by the response, particularly the performance of 18-year-old Luke Reeder who was Man of the Match.

“Unfortunately, we have been hit by a number of injuries and unavailabilities, which has a knock-on effect for the Seconds. However, the spirit they showed in the second half was pleasing.

On Saturday the First XV travel to Avon, while the Seconds host Wellington Seconds.

“Avon is a place where we have struggled. We put our away form to bed last week and are looking for more fun on the road this weekend, with the second XV looking to get back on track at home to Wellington.”
