MINEHEAD Barbarians Under 14 boys were too good for their Wellington visitors when the two sides met at the Tom Stewart Field Ellicombe Road, and after an impressive performance it was the home side who ran out the comfortable 57-12 winners.
The Barbarians got off to a great start when Arthur Gell went in for a try behind the posts which was converted by Finn Penny. However, the visitors bounced back straight away to score a converted try to draw level.
The game was looking like it was going to be close until Max Atkins made a good run to score under the posts, soon followed by Billy Haller driving the ball over the line.
Minehead never looked like taking their foot off the gas! Arthur scored again following a good run from Jessie Bruce down the left wing.
Before half time Alfie Harris scored what was probably the most memorable try of the match. He broke the Wellington defensive line before scoring his second ever try for Minehead, behind the posts with a swan dive.
Minehead carried on where they left off in the second half with three further tries in a row, one for Arthur and two for Ed White, all of which were converted by Finn.
Nearing the end of the game Wellington got one back before the young Barbarians had the final say when Arthur scored his fourth try of the match, which made the final score 57-12 to the home team - much to the delight of the players and the large number of spectators who were cheering on the boys.
This was a classy performance from the Barbarians Under 14s who are enjoying a successful season, which is all good news looking to the future of the club.
