MINEHEAD will be looking to put their first loss of the season behind them when they play away to Imperial in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League on Saturday, August 29.

Minehead slumped to a 2-0 home defeat against Wrington Redhill last Saturday and manager Lee Todd said: “It was not very good - we were not up to it.

“But, having said that, we had a perfectly good ‘goal’ by Toby Wagborn disallowed for offside in the second half. I think we would have gone on to win it if that had been allowed. No-one seems to know why it was disallowed, only the referee.”

Meanwhile, Minehead travel to Imperial with several players missing - for various reasons. “It means there won’t be many changes made to the side,” added Todd.

Both Imperial and Minehead go into the match with similar records - having won one, drawn one and lost one.

Minehead are hoping that striker Tom Barnes, who has been abroad working, will be available to play his first game of the season.

Meanwhile Watchet Town, who were beaten 9-0 away by Worle last weekend despite beating Porlock 4-1 in a friendly a few days earlier, face a daunting trip to play early leaders Peasedown Miners Welfare.

Nick Sully, Watchet’s manager, said: “We slipped back into our old habits and were outpaced and outgunned. It was really disappointing especially as we had been able to name a full quota of players.”

Although top of the table, Peasedown have already lost two matches - to Ashcott (2-1 at home) and Nailsea United Reserves (3-1 away).

Fixtures for Saturday, August 29: Clutton v Burnham United, Glastonbury v St George Easton in Gordano, Imperial v Minehead, Paulton Rovers Sports v Winscombe, Peasedown Miners Welfare v Watchet Town, Westfield v Nailsea United Reserves, Worle v Ashcott.
