MINEHEAD Running Club raised at total of over £2,000 for their chosen charity in 2015.

And at their annual Porlock Hill Christmas Race and shindig afterwards at the Top Ship in Porlock, an initial cheque for £1,000 was handed over to Down’s Syndrome South West co-ordinator Kate Potter.

And when all other donations were added in afterwards, a record £2024 had been collected.

The race up the hill in the dark, with only a pushed Father Christmas’s illuminated sleigh and an array of decorative lights shining the way, was won by Phil Taphouse who led the 30 competitors across the cattle grid at the top.

His time of 21 minutes 17 seconds for the two-mile run wasn’t the fastest in the race’s 15-year history but a good effort all the same.

The club’s chosen charity for 2016 is the Seahorse Centre in Minehead, which is hoping to stage its own Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Day at Minehed Rugby Club this year, and the running club will help finance the event.
