AT LAST the weather has improved for the better and cricket pitches are drying out.

Sadly, Minehead’s warm up match against Wellington at Queen’s College last Saturday had to be called off.

However, Dan Bowditch, the Minehead Cricket Club First XI captain, is still looking into the possibility of a game this weekend.

The skipper said; “ We’ve had some football and rugby tournaments on the fields so they’re not in the shape we would like at this time of year.”

After winning the Premier Division of the Somerset Cricket League last season Minehead have been promoted to the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Division and make the long trip to play at Yeovil for their opener on Saturday, 4th May.

Looking ahead to the first league match Bowditch said: “We’re looking good for first league game away to Yeovil but will be missing a few due to a football cup final.”

Minehead Thirds are also away on 4th May when they make the trip to play at Sampford Arundel in Division Three of the West Somerset Cricket League.

Minehead Seconds, who are in Somerset Cricket League Division Three, are playing Chard at home on the Bank Holiday Monday 5th May due to another rugby tournament that weekend.
