MINEHEAD Ladies I travelled to rivals Taunton Vale IV on Saturday knowing a win would put them back into second place in the league - and they didn’t disappoint with a 2-0 success.

With some good passing in midfield by Georgia Perkins, Fenella Bennett and Hazel Binding, they were unlucky to capitalise on some early short corners.

Vale then pressed, but with Liz Darby stopping the ball on the line twice and keeper Jan Weetch making some good saves, Minehead were able to break quickly and a well-timed pass from defence by Binding found Dee Lancaster and she slipped the ball into Vicky Perkins stick, allowing her to smash home the opening goal.

Minehead came out fighting in the second half, knowing a second goal was need to take the pressure off and it came when an aerial ball from Rachel Speed found Georgia Weatherlake and she turned and found sister Olivia, who drew two players then slipped the ball home at the far post.

With Vale having little of the ball and with Minehead continuing to press, Lancaster was unlucky to have an effort disallowed for an apparent use of the foot and the match finished 2-0.

Chanin and Thomas player of the match was Olivia Weatherlake for her running, attacking play and defensive support.
