MINEHEAD will be looking to keep up the pressure at the top of the Premier Division in the Somerset Cricket League when they play at home to North Petherton on Saturday, July 4.

Although lying fifth in the table, Minehead are only 11 points behind the leaders Taunton Deane 2nd XI in a very competitive division.

Saturday’s opponents Petherton are lying one place above the seasiders - four points better off.

Minehead kept in touch with the top teams last weekend when they gained an impressive six-wicket home success against Taunton St Andrews 2nd XI.

The Saints put themselves in a strong position by scoring 258-8 in their 45 overs with Jordan Clapp hitting 72 and Henry Mason-Walshaw 62. Connor Paterson took 3-30.

Star of Minehead’s innings was Chris James who steered the seasiders to victory with an unbeaten 108 which included 11 fours and six sixes. Opener Ian Buchanan scored 45 and Dan Bowditch 34.

Minehead 2nd XI will be hoping to move off the bottom of the table in Division Three when they also play at home - to local rivals Wiveliscombe, who are lying fifth.

Minehead lost by two wickets away to Taunton Deane 3rd XI last weekend while Wiveliscombe were beaten by four wickets at home by Chard.

North Curry top the table but are only one point ahead of second-placed Shaftsbury Road.
