WIVELISCOMBE will be chasing their tenth successive victory when they play at home to Truro in Counties One Western West on Saturday, January 10 (2.30p.m.).
The West Somerset side ended the first half of the season with a 32-5 home win over Wellington before a bumper Boxing Day crowd.
Previous to this, they had won nine successive matches in the league and moved into an eight-point lead at the top of the table over second-placed Paignton.
In fact, the only side to have beaten them this season have been Truro who chalked up a 21-17 home win over their rivals in mid-September. The Cornish side are lying sixth in the table, having won five of their ten fixtures, drawn one and lost four times.
Paignton play at home to fourth-placed Redruth in the other top match of the day, while third-placed Kingbridge are home to bottom side Penryn who have won only twice.
Fixtures, January 10: Kingsbridge v Penryn, St Ives (SW) v Saltash, Torquay Athletic v Newton Abbot, Wiveliscombe v Truro, Paignton v Redruth, Plymstock Oaks v Barnstaple.
The following weekend Wiveliscombe are set to play away to Penryn, having beaten the Cornish outfit 53-24 when they played at The Rec in early October.
Wiveliscombe 2nd XV, surprisingly held to a draw by Wellington in Boxing Day’s annual match at Plain Pond, play against their local rivals again in Counties Three Somerset South at the Athletic Ground - also on Saturday, January 10 (2.30p.m.).
Wiveliscombe, who have found it tough going after being promoted at the end of last season, are lying tenth while Wellington are bottom, having lost all 11 of their matches before Christmas.
Fixtures, Friday, January 9: Bridgwater & Albion v Weston super Mare. Saturday, January 10: Hornets v Chard, North Petherton v Crewkerne, Wellington v Wiveliscombe, Wyvern v Wells, Tor v Martock.
