MINEHEAD Ladies beat Taunton Vale III 4-2 away after a fine display from both teams on a soggy morning on Saturday.
Both teams attacked from the start, but it was Minehead’s Carol Matravers who found the back of the net first, driving home a forceful shot from a long corner taken by Hazel Binding.
A second goal followed shortly after, when some good team work by the forwards ended with Georgia Perkins’ cross finding Denise Lancaster and she was too quick for the Taunton defence, putting Minehead 2-0 up at half-time.
Taunton Vale were quick to respond after the break with a goal after five minutes, but Minehead stepped up the pace of their play, and after some skillful work from Emily Bland to keep the ball in play, it was well-worked through to the forwards in the D and Perkins made it 3-1.
The home team fought back again and pulled back another goal, but the visitors had the final say when a fine reverse stick shot by Fran Broome made it 4-2 with only a minute to go.
The Tony Pryce player of the match was Fran Broome.
The team’s next game is at home at West Somerset College against Taunton Vale IV next Saturday (November 7).
