Minehead 2 Weston 7
MINEHEAD Ladies suffered a 7-2 defeat against Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.
They went behind early on to a strike from a short corner, after which play was briefly suspended while Weston changed their stripe as the glare of the sun wad making it difficult to distinguish between the teams.
Minehead responded to the goal with a strike from Denise Lancaster which narrowly missed.
Weston were quick soon back on the attack and despite some good saves from keeper Jan Weech, they led 4-0 at the break.
The second half went better for Minehead despite Weston quickly making it 6-0, and they pulled a goal back with a shot by Artemis Clark from a short corner.
Weston added their seventh goal, but again Minehead hit back with a goal from the free-scoring Denise Lancaster to make the final score 7-2.

Taunton Vale II 7 Minehead II 6
Minehead Ladies II were edged out 7-6 away to third in the table Taunton Vale III on Saturday despite a strong fightback.
They started on the back foot and were 3-0 down within 15 minutes.
Several attacks from Georgia Perkins, Naomi Trunks and Charlotte Taylor created some good chances but the Vale keeper stood in Minehead’s way, and just before half-time their task became harder when Vale made it 4-0.
After a positive team talk and change in formation, Minehead play some of their best hockey in the second half and were reward for their hard work when Jodie Wallace fired home a pass across the D by Perkins.
Good passing and attacking play then earned Minehead a short corner and after a one-two between Naomi Trunks and Liz Darby, Perkins got on the end of the ball and scored to make it 4-2.
Vale then netted twice to go 6-2 ahead, but with confidence growing, Minehead pressed and a good run through from Trunks pulled back another goal.
With only 15 minutes to play, Minehead threw their all into every tackle and attack, but Vale scored the next goal to lead 7-3.
Minehead’s positive attitude and hard work was rewarded when Perkins scored her second goal with a slice across the keeper’s body, then Taylor scored after another well-planned one-two between Trunks and Darby from another short corner.
With the score now 7-5 and five minutes to play, some messy defending by Vale saw Trunks get to the loose ball and make it 7-6, but time ran out with Minehead pressing hard for the equaliser.
