THE ladies’ section of Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club have enjoyed some fun competitions in recent months.

On November 3 a 14-hole stableford with a bring and buy raised money for the lady captain’s charity, St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice.

The winner was Gill Hurley with 28 points, second was Pam Telling (26) on the back seven from Sara Warren (26).

A week later the last medal of the year was played and Jayne Fulwell won with 82, on the back nine from Jayne Webber, also 82, and Julia Holroyd with 83 was third..

November 24 saw an individual Turkey Trot Stableford played, and the winner was Jenny Elliot with 36 points, followed by Maxine Wilkinson (34) and Jill Fisher (32).

On December 1 a Turkey Trot Stableford Bowmaker was held, with two scores from each team to count, and the winners were Sue Prentice, Maxine Wilkinson and Tina Beaver with 83 points, four ahead of runners-up Jayne Webber, Julia Holroyd and Pat Grinter with 79.

The Ladies held their annual Christmas dinner on December 10, when the prizes were given out to the winners of the two turkey trots.

December 15 saw a Waltzing Bowmaker played in teams of three, one score to count on the 1st hole, two scores on the 2nd and three scores on the 3rd and so on for the round.

The winners were Jenny Holland, Kay Luckett and Roz Chidgey with 69 points.

On December 22 a 14-hole stableford was won by Pat Grinter with 26 points, and t5he runner-up was Roz Chidgey with 25.

The first two rounds of the Winter Matchplay were held on November 17 and December 5.

Entrants were divided into four groups of eight and during the winter months they play each other, receiving points for winning, drawing and losing, and the winners of each group go through to the semi-finals.

The competition gives everyone the chance to learn how to play matchplay.

Anyone interested in joining the ladies’ section should get in touch with the golf club. Competitions are usually played each Thursday, but anyone who works during the week can play theirs at the weekend.
