UNUSUAL conditions welcomed Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club Seniors to the tee for a Stableford competition to start off the week.

There was not a breath of wind to be found on the course which provided a quandary to many regarding club selection. In a close competition, four players scored 38 points with Graham Troman winning on countback in a very close event, ahead of Karl Granger, third place went to W John Perkins while Dave Walmsley was fourth.

The midweek Reverse Waltz Bowmaker attracted another large entry with the prevailing wind causing its usual havoc on the back nine.

In a close finish, the winning team of Karl Granger, Dave Ball and Neville Parsons managed 70 points. Second place with 69 points went to Richard Austwick, Mark Watson and Peter Allerton while third position with 68 points was claimed by Steve Gay, Mark Swallow and Rick Milliship.

Rounding off the week in fine style, the Seniors played a Texas Scramble. In another close competition, three teams recorded a nett 61. On countback, the winners were Richard Austwick, Dave Ball and Steve Woodbury. Second place went to Hannu Maki, Neville Parsons and Roger Read, who were ahead of Peter Allerton, Steve Gay and Fraser Lawrence.

Meanwhile, the Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club recently hosted the Skylark Trophy which is a long-standing annual fixture.

By virtue of its position in the calendar it effectlvely welcomes the onset of Autumn. This betterball format comprises a mixed inter-club friendly competition following which there is a meal and prizegiving and is always a very popular occasion.

Congratulations go to the winners Annette and Richard O’Hare who returned an excellent 45 points. Runners up with 42 points were Jayne Fulwell and George Hampshire with Catherine Binding and Luke Taylor in third place with 41 points.
