WATCHET Bowling Club held its annual J&J Trophy in the middle of September - and it produced good competition for the prizes.

The event was created a number of years ago by John and Josie Hooper, long standing members of the club and they were there again to support the event.

The weather was variable but the fun, (aided by the relaxed bright clothes allowed) and the competition constant.

Participants were drawn into teams of two and so the games of pairs commenced. Each game was limited to some 45 minutes or eight ends whichever was first, with the teams playing against different opponents at each change. Play started at 10 am with short breaks after each game as well as a leisurely lunch included. The latter was kindly provided for by the event’s sponsors Thorne and Segar.

The results of the competition were: 4th place Phil Keith and Phil Preston; 3rd place Colin Bowden and Mike Webber; 2nd place Tickle Daley and Elaine Preston; 1st place Jackie Eling and Steve Gunner.

Monetary prizes, provided by John and Josie, were presented to each of these pairs by two representatives from Thorne and Segar. A lovely day was enjoyed by all.

The final outdoor game this season was held on the 19th September. This was the annual Captain versus President competition.

Club members were drawn into triples teams, four playing for the Captain and four for the President. Play commenced at 10 am. On this occasion the President’s teams won on one rink but the Captain’s teams won on the other three! A friendly light lunch was served to all the players and officials.

Bowling is fun, good exercise and healthy competition and is a game which can be played throughout the winter season.
