MINEHEAD and West Somerset Golf Club Ladies Section continued to be very active during August.

Three teams of three played away in the Portmore Golf Club Ladies Open near Barnstable. This included a cream tea halfway round. This was a team Stableford with two scores out of three to count on each hole. A fun and sociable day was had by all, but no prizes were brought home.

A Somerset League match took place away to Taunton and Pickeridge. Minehead Ladies took a pounding and lost 6-1 on a course that has a huge home advantage.

A Ilfracombe friendly followed with 10 ladies; each team played greensomes matchplay. This was in very windy conditions, on a challenging course. The spectacular sea views were enjoyed from every hole. and although Minehead lost 5 -0 a very enjoyable day was had with the Ilfracombe ladies followed by an excellent meal.

At home several cups have been competed for. The Philips Cup and Daily Mail Qualifier was won by the pairing of Hazel Binding and Sarah Hill with a nett 67, beating Ginnette Bowyer and Lesley Davies by 2 shots.

The Berger Cup (lower handicappers) was won by Tricia Grinter (18) with a nett 71, second was Hazel Binding (23) with a nett 75. On the same day the Lorna Sparkes Cup was contested for (higher handicappers). This was won by Jayne Fulwell (29) with a nett 73 on countback from Leslie Davis (24), also with a nett 73.

The Clover Cup, a day cup, was played on a Saturday with Ruth Maclennan (25) victorious with a nett 67 on countback from second placed Anne Oglesby (18), also on nett 67.

A mixed fun event was played the following Friday afternoon with Doug Hayhoe (12) and Claire Hayhoe (42) the winners.
