JULY continues to be busy for Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club Ladies Section with several away and home matches along with the regular Thursday competition and internal knockout matches to be completed. Also, there are some fun mixed events.

The Ladies Championships were contested over 36 holes in one day. Good weather saw a win for Deano Carlin (13) posting a gross 82 on both rounds. Second was Tricia Grinter (17) posting a gross 87 and 98 - a reverse of last year’s result. The Nett prize was won by Cath Binding (35) posting a gross 108 and 99 respectively.

The June medal saw Lesley Davies (23) triumphant with a nett 77. Second was Tricia Grinter (17) with a nett 80.

A mixed competition was played on a Saturday which was foursomes format (alternate shots). Hazel and Nigel Binding came in with 42 points, beating Jackie Brocklehurst and Stephen Woodbury with 38.

Minehead Ladies took three teams away to play Teignmouth in Devon for their open competition.

There was a league match against Tall Pines Golf Club at home. The opposition brought a strong team to defeat Minehead Ladies 5 ½ to 1 ½.

Another mixed fun event was held, this time the format was Pinehurst Greensomes. Hazel and Nigel Binding were again winners with a very impressive score of 47 points. Ruth and David Ball were second with 44 points.

The regular Thursday Competition was the Senior Trophy open for Ladies of age 60+. This was won by Ruth Maclennan (26) with 37 points, playing one under her handicap. Second was Sandra Atkins with 36 points.

Next up was a Wessex match away at Oake Manor Golf Club, in searingly hot conditions. Minehead, unfortunately, lost 3-4 to the Somerset club.
