MINEHEAD Ladies were in the mood for goals on Saturday as they ran out 8-0 winners against Taunton Vale 5.

Minehead started strongly, applying lots of pressure from both wings consisting of Kate L and Morgan C.

After plenty of possession, Amy T opened up the scoring with a nicely struck hit from the top of the circle, making it 1-0 to Minehead.

Defenders Tracey B, Charlotte H and Sue G worked well to stop any Taunton counter attacks.

Minehead kept pushing forward in midfield with Gemma C and Sarah H working well, allowing Lauren P to find space, slotting the ball to Morgan C on the post who neatly flicked the ball above the opposition’s goalkeeper.

It wasn’t long before Minehead got their third goal after a well-worked move from Jess K and Denise L on the left, finding Hannah S who calmly lifted the ball over the goalkeeper to bring up her first goal of the day.

Jan W in goal was called into action alongside defender Carol M, who marked a wonderful return to the team with plenty of vital interceptions.

Minehead continued to apply plenty of pressure, resulting in a flurry of short corners.

After many vital saves from Taunton Vale, Amy was able to score her second of the day with another straight hit into the bottom of the goal, making it 4-0 to Minehead at half time.

Minehead started the second half strongly, finding plenty of success on both sides of the pitch with Morgan and Kate forcing Taunton Vale’s goalkeeper into more excellent saves.

Tracey stepped up from the back, passing to Sarah who drove the ball along the right down the baseline and slotting the ball into the goal, taking Minehead to a 5-0 lead.

Taunton Vale were held at bay by more astute defending from Sue, Charlotte and Carol as well as saves from Jan.

Gemma and Jess provided excellent width across the pitch forcing the opponents’ goalkeeper into more excellent saves.

Hannah and Lauren put together a number of passes, finishing with Hannah deflecting the ball into the goal for 6-0.

Minehead continued to push on with Amy finding the goal again from another well worked short corner from Denise slipping left, bringing up a well earned hat-trick.

Sarah and Amy kept possession in midfield and once again Minehead were rewarded with another short corner.

Gemma neatly slipped the ball to Hannah who was eagerly waiting on the penalty spot hitting the ball in for Minehead’s eighth of the morning and with that the final whistle.
