DESPITE giving another hard-working performance, Watchet Town went down by 3 goals to 1 when they visited Clevedon AFC in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League.
After taking the lead Watchet were pegged back to 1-1 at the halftime interval and were then denied what looked like an obvious penalty before a couple of defensive slips saw the points go in the home side's favour.
Clevedon swarmed all over the Red & Blacks at the outset and would have been two-up in the first five minutes but for a couple of very sharp saves from keeper Jack Harding.
The visitors settled down to take the lead when Josh Aspey's corner flicked off a defender's head for Billy Jones to ram a first time shot into the bottom corner.
Watchet suffered a blow when new-signing Aaron Merry was forced off with a hamstring injury, Owen Cannell coming on to make his senior debut. Jones missed his header from Eben Harding's free kick before Clevedon drew level with Hance netting from close range after Harding had parried the initial shot.
The keeper then recovered to make another unlikely stop after a home forward had rounded him and it was all-square at the break.
Soon after the restart Jones was bundled over near the byeline as he bore down on goal, but the referee appeared to be the only one to deem it a fair challenge.
Clevedon made the most of this escape by taking advantage of a couple of errors to go 3-1 up and it was largely one-way traffic from then on with Harding making more saves and Ollie Webber clearing off the line as Watchet refused to give in.
Watchet Town: Jack Harding, Ollie Webber, Charley Clausen, Eben Harding, Nigel Bremner, Josh Aspey, Andy Hall, Harvey Henderson, Todd Willis, Billy Jones, Aaron Merry. Sub: Owen Cannell.
