MINEHEAD will be looking to complete a 21-day double over Portishead Town Reserves when they play away to the leaders in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League on Saturday, December 13.
The seasiders beat Portishead 2-1 at Irnham Road when the sides met towards the end of last month in one of the first games with Lee Todd in charge.
Minehead are lying fifth in the table, despite their 2-0 loss away to another title-chasing side Peasedown Miners Welfare who have now joined Portishead at the top with 30 points - and they also have a game in hand.
Portishead would become outright leaders of the division if they win and Peasedown were to lose their away match against Imperial who have not played for the past two Saturdays. Minehead could also go third if they beat Portishead.
Minehead boss Todd said he was ‘pleased’ with his side’s display at Peasedown despite losing. “We made two mistakes which cost us goals - and we were definitely the better side in the second half. We could have scored three or four goals after the interval.
“I rate Peasedown the best side we have played since I’ve been in charge. I think they are very much candidates for promotion.”
Meanwhile, Combe St Nicholas’ unbeaten record will be at stake when they play away to Clutton in the first division. Combe, who have won six and drawn three of their nine matches, are lying third with games in hand on the two teams above them.
First division fixtures for Saturday, December 13: Clutton v Combe St Nicholas, Glastonbury v Burnham United, Imperial v Peasedown Miners Welfare, Portishead Town Reserves v Minehead. Somerset Senior Cup: Cheddar Reserves v Ashcott, Nailsea United v Sporting Weston, Winscombe v Wells City Reserves, Wrington Redhill v Chew Magna.
