WATCHET Town will be looking to maintain their impressive form in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League when they play away to struggling Stockwood Green on Saturday, writes Barry Knott.

Watchet are now only four points behind the league leaders Staplegrove, and have two crucial games in hand, after beating the Taunton outfit 2-1 at home last Saturday.

Watchet club spokesman Nick Sully said afterwards: "It was a massive result for us.

“If we had lost the season could have gone pear shaped.

"Staplegrove were a decent side, as you would expect being top of the table, but I thought we deserved to win.

“But we mustn't get too carried away. There are still six games to go.

"Stockwood lost last week but they have had a couple of good results recently."

Watchet, however, go into tomorrow's game without five key players - goalkeeper Adam Bishop, skipper Eben Harding, Josh Aspey, Connor Jeromson and Adam Jefferies.

Kieran Bailey comes back into the match day squad.

Staplegrove are away to fifth-placed Saltford who trail the league leaders by 12 points but have two matches in hand.

Minehead, now down in 11th spot in the table, have no match scheduled for this Saturday but face five away games out of six in their run-up to the end of the season.

They play away to Stockwood Green at the end of the month and will be hoping to add three much-needed points to their tally.

It was not long ago that Minehead were talking of a five-year plan to get back into the Toolstation League.

Considering their position at the moment and a change of management at the end of the season, a lot would have to be done to put this plan into fruition.

It is a long time ago that Minehead were in the Southern League and were considered the second best non-league side in the country.

Those were the days when their stand will full and spectators were able to enjoy football of a high standard.

Meanwhile, in the first division of the Taunton Saturday League, Minehead Reserves are away to Stogursey while Porlock will visit Redgate.

Exmoor Rangers are home to Bridgwater Sports in the first division while Alcombe Rovers have a big match away to league leaders Wellington Reds in the second division (Playing Field 12.30). Minehead Colts are home to Watchet Town Reserves (2.30).

Minehead Reserves play Bridgwater Wolves in the new President's Cup at the Bridgwater College Academy next Wednesday (March 27).

This is a competition which has been introduced by the league to provide teams with more games between now and the end of the season.
