WATCHET Town play their first home game since the beginning of the New Year when they face sixth-placed Stockwood Green in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League on Saturday, February 28 (2p.m.).

Watchet, who are bottom of the table and facing almost certain relegation, put up a spirited fight before losing 2-0 away to Yatton & Cleeve United over the weekend.

“It was a much better display than against Staplegrove the previous week,” said Watchet boss Nick Sully. “It was an improved performance but obviously not good enough because we lost.

“It looked like we were going in at half time on level terms but they won a corner and scored from it just before the referee blew for the break.

“The game was played in driving rain in the second half and the pitch became worse as the game went on. There was even the possibility it could have been abandoned.”

Watchet go into the match against Stockwood still without any points this season, having had the only points they have gained deducted for calling off three matches early in the season.

Meanwhile Minehead, who are lying eighth in the first division but having played more games than teams around them, have a tough away game against Westfield in the first division.

Westfield are below Minehead in the table but they became the first side to beat Combe St Nicholas, winning 3-0 at home earlier this month. It is Combe’s only loss of the season.

Minehead were due to play away to Clutton in the league last weekend but the game was called off because of a waterlogged pitch. They would have been without five regulars - but they will all be available for the match at Westfield as Minehead chase only their eighth win of the season.
