MINEHEAD slumped to their 11th defeat of the season in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League when they went down 4-1 away to Westfield in their latest match.

Although Westfield began the game below Minehead in the table, they became the first side to beat Combe St Nicholas recently - so the result did not come as a complete surprise.

But Minehead boss Lee Todd admitted: “I was disappointed with the result because they are one of the worst sides we have played this season.

“We were made to pay for mistakes in the first-half - and then restricted them to only one shot in the second half. We created plenty of chances in the second-half but we simply cannot put the ball in the back of the net at the moment.”

Minehead were forced to play outfield player Arron Deeks in goal because Greg Turner pulled out of the game through injury and he had to be replaced at half time by Declan Green after picking up a knock.

Minehead found themselves 3-1 down at the interval, with Toby Waghorn scoring their goal to make it 1-1 after following up a rebound - while Matty Ronan unfortunately headed into his own net.

Minehead hit the woodwork three times in the second-half and also had a shot cleared off the goalline. However, Westfield still managed to score again with a shot which took a deflection to clinch the points and move above the seasiders in the table.

Minehead: Deeks, Lovell, JJ Knight, Harvey-Lamar, Burge, Prescott, Voss, Ronan, Jackson (capt), Waghorn, Barnes. Substitutes (all used): Green, Burns, Hardick.

Elsewhere, top of the table Portishead Town Reserves stretched their lead at the top to six points despite dropping two points in a goalless draw away to Imperial, while Burnham United moved up into second place after beating Clutton 1-0 at home.
