RELEGATED Watchet Town end their disappointing season this Saturday, April 25, with a home game against Worle, who need to win to stand a chance of staying in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County League themselves.

If the Weston side take all three points they will avoid the drop if Stockwood Wanderers lose their final match the week after.

Watchet’s last away game against title contenders Chilcompton Sports saw them suffer another heavy defeat - by 7 goals to nil. The Red & Blacks managed not to concede in the opening minute but fell behind soon afterwards when Connor Jeromson found his own net from a free kick on the right.

The home side were then awarded a dubious penalty when Billy Jones slid in to take the ball, but Regan Gallagher saved Gay’s spot kick. Suspect defending however saw Chili add three more goals before the break despite the visitors stringing some passes together.

Watchet showed some bottle after the interval to hold out for a lengthy spell against a good footballing side and it was well into the last quarter before a second penalty was this time converted by Gay.

The same player soon added a sixth from close range before Jeromson had a rasping drive saved at the other end. Lewis Clavey and Tom Soarks threatened before deep into stoppage time an innocent-looking challenge from Alex Seys - who had a strong game at the back- was deemed worthy of a third penalty kick by the official which allowed Cook to complete his hat trick. The referee then sent three Watchet players to the 10-minute sin bin when there was only enough time left for the restart kick off!

Watchet Town: Regan Gallagher, Harvey Henderson, Alex Seys, Charley Clausen, Connor Jeromson, Josh Aspey, Jack Harding, Billy Jones, Todd Willis, Lewis Clavey, Tom Soarks. Sub unused: Matt Heywood.
