MINEHEAD Barbarians’ second string entertained a good size crowd at Ellicombe, scoring eight tries against a big Weston pack to win 48-14.

Vital to the Minehead success was scoring three tries in the first half when playing into a strong wind; this gave them a lead which they never looked like surrendering when they had the breeze in their favour.

Weston brought some very heavy forwards, so Minehead tried to keep the ball moving, to favour their greater mobility. A first score came from centre Murrell, with Parfitt soon adding another. It was fitting that James Eastaugh also scored a try, as he was playing alongside his father Andy, who was playing his final match for the Barbarians. Andy has been a playing regular for many years.

The second half saw Minehead add further tries by Handley, his first after his return from a lengthy period out injured, Wilcox, and Lock, while Parfitt crossed twice to complete his hat-trick.
