MINEHEAD Ladies 1610 football team showed their growing ability and teamwork on Sunday as they won 10-0 away to Ilminster.
Positive attacking play from the start enabled Georgia Perkins, Natalie Price and captain Morgan Smith to create chances, and it was Perkins who gave Minehead the lead with a perfectly placed shot.
And they were soon 2-0 up when a corner was played to Liz Darby on the edge of the box and she fired home a shot into the top left corner.
Minehead continued to press with the advantage of three subs and one, Elishia Robertson, touched home a well-timed cross from Smith to make it 3-0.
When Ilminster tried to through, good tackles from Kirsty Trevi and Abbie Vickers stopped any chance of them scoring.
Midfielder Jodie Taylor was next to find the net after a good run through the home defence.
With every player pressing and working as a team, there were some good clearances from defenders Emma Jones and Abbie Rendell, and one enabled Price to find a gap in the Ilminster defence and make it 5-0.
Ilminster had the last chance of the first half but a fine stop by keeper Amy Thomas denied them a goal.
The second half saw much of the same, and some good one-two passing by Darby, Taylor and Vicky Langdon in midfield led to Smith scoring with a left-foot shot from the edge of the box.
She then netted her second and Minehead’s seventh after a good run and pass by Perkins, and it was soon 8-0 when Sophie Tipper crossed and Marie Denley’s shot was touched wide for Robertson to tap in.
After Ilminster created several chances, Minehead had the last say, with Darby’s pass finding Smith sitting waiting at the top of the box to smash home the ninth goal then Price scoring her second of the game after a good pass from Langdonto wrap up the scoring.
