ALCOMBE Rovers travelled to Norton Fitzwarren on a cold, wet and miserable afternoon but showed outstanding resilience and togetherness to grind out a 2–1 victory and secure all three points in Division One of the Taunton Saturday Football League.

The visitors made a lively start, with skipper Mike Graddon and Sam Harley bossing the midfield and setting the tempo early on. Alcombe moved the ball well through the lines and controlled large spells of possession but struggled to turn that dominance into clear-cut chances.

Against the run of play, Norton stunned the visitors with a moment of brilliance. Slack marking allowed space to open up, and their midfielder unleashed a spectacular 40-yard strike that flew into the top corner, giving Norton the lead.

The second half saw Norton sit deep and attempt to frustrate Alcombe, but the Rovers continued to press with determination. A series of chances came and went, and it looked as though it might not be Alcombe’s day. However, Nathan Collins showed sharp striker’s instinct, reacting quickest inside the box to pounce on a loose ball and fire home the equaliser.

Sensing the opportunity for all three points, Alcombe changed formation and pushed further up the pitch in search of a winner. The pressure eventually told in spectacular fashion when Beau Winters stepped forward and unleashed a stunning strike from outside the box, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance and sending the travelling support into celebration. On another day, Alcombe could have been three or four goals ahead.

It was a performance built on character, belief, and unity — clear evidence of the strong team spirit running through the squad.

Joint Man of the Match: Mike Graddon & Sam Harley — outstanding leadership, work rate, and control that drove the team to victory.
