ALCOMBE Rovers ended their year in emphatic fashion with a dominant 9–0 home victory against Old Inn in Division One of the Taunton Saturday Football League, delivering a complete performance.
The scoring was opened in spectacular style. Cullen Bruford produced a superb outside-of-the-boot forward pass to meet a clever run from Nathan Collins, who selflessly pulled the ball back for Sam Harley to curl an unstoppable screamer into the top corner. Minutes later, Alcombe pressed again and were awarded a penalty, which Collins calmly converted to make it 2–0.
The third goal was another example of excellent team play, starting with goalkeeper Carl Paige, who found Toren Eldridge. A clever exchange involving Collins released Harley at the far post to slot home Alcombe’s third.
The tempo remained relentless, with Alcombe moving the ball quicker than Old Inn could cope. Eldridge, enjoying a superb game, picked out Luke Hill, who beat the keeper before completing a spectacular one-two with the post to make it 4–0.
Alcombe were far from finished. Collins added a fifth with a powerful strike from outside the box, and just before the break another flowing team move involving Charlie Disney, Eldridge, and Bruford saw Collins flick on for captain Mike Graddon to finish, sending the Rovers in at half-time 6–0 up.
The second half saw no let-up. Alcombe controlled possession, frustrated the visitors, and continued to play with confidence and freedom. Sam Harley completed his hat-trick with a clever finish, before Nathan Collins followed suit with his own third. The scoring was completed by Cullen Bruford, who capped a fine individual display to make it 9–0.
Alcombe boss Brian Hall said: “This was a complete performance that’s been coming for a while. The attitude of this squad has been a real transformation, and it’s been a pleasure to be part of. “
