PORLOCK pulled off their third win of the season in the Premier Division of the Taunton Saturday Football League when they beat struggling Wellington A 2-0 on the all-weather pitch at Court Fields School.

The visitors started better, getting early control of the possession and being able to dictate the tempo of the game and were unlucky when Jack Evans played the ball to Caleb Laney who ‘scored’ only to be adjudged offside.

Porlock’s experienced defence of Dec Paterson, Chris James, Stephen Arnold and Zac Brown nullified anything Wellington could muster, ensuring ‘keeper Darren Sherring didn’t have to save a single shot in the first half.

With the score 0-0 at the interval Porlock introduced Ryan Parsons up top and Caleb Laney’s move into a wider position seemed to be a key decision as Parsons’ caused problems for the Wellington centre backs.

Midway through the second half Laney put Porlock ahead when he blasted the ball past the Wellington goalkeeper.

This boosted Porlock’s confidence and it wasn’t long before Laney had another chance but he narrowly headed wide. A few moments later a lobbed cross was delivered by Jack Evans which the Wellington defence and keeper completely misjudged which allowed skipper Adam Langdon to head home to double Porlock’s lead.

Wellington dropped their heads as Porlock continued to have much more possession. It wasn’t until the 85th minute that Wellington registered their first shot on goal which was straight at Sherring.

The final whistle blew and Porlock claimed their first clean sheet of the season and a valuable three points to leave them in sixth in the table , six points behind the leaders.
