FOLLOWING a disappointing start at Galmington on the first day of the season, things did not improve for Minehead Reserves who slumped 5-0 away to local rivals Porlock in a local derby in the Premier Division of the Centregreat Taunton & District Taunton Saturday Football League. Still without a first choice goal keeper and with several others unavailable, Minehead did start better in this game and arguably played the better football in the first half an hour but didn’t look to threaten the experienced Porlock keeper Darren Sherring.

Missing first choice centre backs Andy Gubb and Haydn Phippen Minehead’s defence looked solid until two mistakes cost them dearly as Porlock went ahead through a Morris free kick and a snorter from Braden Taylor from 35 yards. Minehead’s midfield of FinnHaran, Dan Vickers, Josh Heath and Scott Kivell worked hard but Porlock always looked the more likely to score which they did, adding three more prior to Minehead’s only real chance coming when Kivell found Sherring with a decent effort from a Vickers cross.

Porlock will keep local bragging rights until the reverse fixture but Minehead have another difficult fixture this Saturday away against Dunwear which will see the return of Tomasz Kubaczewski after many weeks absence. Minehead’s Man of the match:- Fin Haran,

Newcomers Taunton Town Reserves were impressive 5-0 home winners over Racehorse Rovers who won the first division championship last season, losing only four matches.
