MINEHEAD Cycling Club members were pinning on their race numbers last weekend as the hillclimb and cyclocross seasons commenced.

At the fearsome climb of Crowcombe Combe, Janet Hewlett was the club’s best finisher, third overall in 9 mins 24 secs in the female category.

Lee Musto started his race campaign with an excellent time to take 14th overall (6.35) in the Open class. Geoff Ware (6.52) pushed hard to take 17th.

Torbay Velopark was the venue for the opener of the cyclocross season. Unusually, it was hot and dry which made for fast races. Matthew Waddams had a tremendous race (2nd V60) against top opposition, David Bray wasn’t far adrift (4th V60) and Stephen Crossman a bit further back (11th V60).

Louise Crossman (2nd V60) and Bonita Waddams (2nd J) were both podium finishers.

Elsewhere MCC members enjoyed both road and MTB rides across Exmoor.
