MINEHEAD will be looking to end a run of three successive defeats in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County League when they play at home to Winscombe on Saturday, September 6 (3p.m.).

The Seasiders will be chasing an early double over Winscombe, having begun the season with a 2-0 away victory over Saturday's opponents.

However, since then, Minehead have suffered losses against Peasedown Miners Welfare, Burnham United and Ashcott, three teams who have made good starts to the season.

Meanwhile, neighbours Watchet Town are continuing to make use of a new clause introduced by the County League aimed at helping clubs with a shortage of players to prevent possible withdrawals by allowing them to postpone three fixtures in a row, with punishment only applying to the first of those concellations.

Watchet club spokesman Nick Sully said: "We're optimistic we will be able to field two sides on Saturday, September 13."

Watchet have teams in the premier division of the county league and the second division of the Taunton Saturday League.

Watchet were forced to call off a recent first team match away to Wells City Reserves because seven players were attending a wedding, three were on holiday, two were injured and others had work commitments.

If the situation improves, Watchet will be hoping to play their first home match of the season in the county league on Saturday, September 13 - against Nailsea United who beat them 9-2 on their own ground in early August.

Meanwhile, the Taunton Saturday League began its programme with midweek cup games, while Porlock are set to play their first match in the Premier Division on Saturday, September 6 - away to Galmington.

Minehead Reserves are away to Middlezoy Rovers Athletic in the first division, while Alcombe Rovers are away to Nether Stowey.
