MINEHEAD Reserves went down 7-3 away to Galmington in the Premier Division of the Centregreat Taunton & District Saturday Football League in their first match of the new season.

It was a disappointing start for Minehead, having travelled with a strong side and a confident attitude.

The Blues were up against it from the start, going 2-0 down within six minutes. Notoriously slow starters the defence of keeper Lewis Breillat, Andy Gubb, Haydn Phippen and Torren Eldridge didn’t look their calm selves. A series of mistakes across the pitch continued to allow Galmington too much space and time and they were 5-0 ahead after 25 minutes and the game was gone.

However Minehead started to get to grips with the pitch and the opposition and Sam Jackson, Dan Vickers, Cullen Bruford, Charlie Disney and Oli Reaney in midfield started to become effective. Just on the half time striker Haiden Griffiths was brought down in the box and Vickers stepped up to calmly fire the penalty home.

The penalty and half time talk seemed to help and 20 minutes saw Minehead get back to 5-3 with two fine finishes from Riley Pope. However two more mistakes allowed Galmington back to 7-3 to give them a comfortable win. Man of the match:- Riley Pope

Minehead Reserves: Lewis Breillat, Charlie Disney, Cullen Bruford, Haydn Phippen, Andy Gubb, Torren Eldridge, Dan Vickers, Sam Jackson, Oli Reaney, Haiden Griffiths, Cam Thompson, Subs:- Riley Pope, Luke Badcock, Scott Kivell, Oli Jones (all used).

Minehead Reserves will almost certainly have to improve their overall play if they are going to beat Porlock away this coming Saturday, September 12. It will be Porlock’s first game of the season.
