MINEHEAD went down to a 3-0 home defeat against Sporting Weston in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League in their latest match.
It meant Minehead slipped to tenth place in the division and still need points to make sure of finishing above the relegation zone because three teams below them have games in hand and could push them into trouble.
Keynsham Town Reserves and Bishops Sutton are almost certainly going down, but four sides are fighting it out for the other spot.
After the game against Sporting Weston, who completed the season’s double over their opponents, having won 3-1 at home, Minehead boss Lee Todd said: “There was nothing between the sides until they went ahead ten minutes before the interval.
“They scored again early in the second half and we went a bit flat after this. And we conceded another towards the end.
“They are a decent side - possibly the best we have played since I became manager - and they will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. I thought we played well at times.”
Minehead: Turner (capt), Harvey-Lamar, JJ Knight, Burge, Lovell, Jackson, Green, Voss, Haran, Prescott, Waghorn. Substitutes: Burns, Griffiths, Heath (used), Reaney (not used).
Elsewhere in the division, Portishead Town Reserves gained a 1-0 away win over Wrington Redhill to maintain their position at the top of the table.
Second-placed Combe St Nicholas, beaten only once this season, were given a surprisingly tough match before winning 1-0 away to Bishop Sutton. Third-placed Ashcott won 1-0 away to Glastonbury.
Minehead have no match this coming weekend (April 1), but play away to Wrington Redhill in a league game on Easter Monday. Their opponents are lying one place below them, six points adrift but with four matches in hand.
