MINEHEAD Under 13 Girls made the two-hour journey to Paulton on Saturday for their first meeting of the season, facing a strong side in what proved to be a competitive and hard-fought fixture.

The game began at a high tempo, with Paulton immediately setting the pace through relentless pressing, in what was an intense opening period where decisions added to the flow and feel of the game.

Minehead rose to the challenge well, quickly adapting their style of play to match the demands of the game. They worked hard to link up play and build attacks, but found it difficult to break down a well-organised and resilient Paulton defence.

Paulton took the lead following a sharp interception just outside their own box, converting the chance to go 1-0 up before half-time.

After a quick regroup during the break, both teams returned to the pitch with determination. Paulton once again started strongly, but the visitors’ defensive unit stood firm. Strong tackling and disciplined positioning limited opportunities, while the Minehead goalkeeper showed great awareness, sweeping up any danger.

The second half saw both sides pushing for control of the game, with Minehead growing in confidence and creating several promising chances. Their persistence paid off with just five minutes remaining when a well-worked corner delivered into the box found a forward in exactly the right place, who calmly finished to level the score.

The closing minutes were tense, with both teams searching for a winner, but neither could find the breakthrough. At the final whistle, Minehead earned a well-deserved point for their efforts in a closely-contested match. Minehead look forward to the return home fixture in a few weeks time.

Minehead now turn their attention to the plate semi-final this Saturday (March 28).
