MINEHEAD lost their first game under new boss Lee Todd when they went down 2-0 away to promotion-chasing Peasedown Miners Welfare in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League.

It was Minehead’s seventh loss of the season but they remain fifth in the table, although sides around them have games in hand. Peasedown netted their first goal after half an hour and their second 20 minutes into the second-half.

“I was far from despondent after the game,” said Todd. “They are a very good side, certainly the best I’ve seen since taking charge.

“Both their goals resulted in mistakes on our part. We were definitely the better side in the second half and could have scored three or four goals. It was an encouraging display against a side who will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

“I’m not ruling out anything after Christmas. There is still a long way to go and anything can happen.”

Minehead: Sidley-Adams, Phillips, Knight, Burge, Voss, Elston, Ronan, Jackson, Harvey-Lumar, Waghorn, Prescott. Substitutes: Lovell, Burns (both used).

Peasedown’s win enabled them to move up to join Portishead Town Reserves at the top of the table with 30 points, while Peasedown have a crucial game in hand.

The bad weather meant only three other matches were played in the division. Glastonbury eased their relegation worries with a surprise 2-1 away victory over Westfield who remain eighth in the table.

Bishop Sutton, who pulled off their first victory of the season recently, lost for the 11th time, going down 5-2 away to Burnham United who are up to sixth.

Keynsham Town Reserves won for only the second time this season, gaining a 2-0 home success against Clutton. However, Keynsham stay second, only three points ahead of Bishop Sutton.
