MINEHEAD Football Club’s end of season presentation evenings focused on the senior teams on Friday May 27.

The first team had a good season, rebuilding the side under returning manager Paul Newbold, and narrowly missed out on promotion back to the Premier Division of the Somerset County League.

The reserves, also under a new manager, Murray Attwell, faired less well but a good squad and the prospect of a few of the youth players coming into the side next season.

The ladies played their first- ever season under the guidance of manager Steve Smith and coach Christina Storey and finished mid-table and would welcome any new players getting in touch as the squad is looking to grow in numbers.

Damion Redman collected a hat-trick of first team awards - Manager’s Player, Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player of the Year.

Young Player of the Year was Matt Ronan, Top Goalscorer Guy Burns, Clubman of the Year Roy Dix and Gerry Hatrick Player of the Season Aaron Ireton.

For the reserves, Manager’s Player was Sean Meade, Players Playe Andy Pope, Young Player Lowell Binnie, Top Goalscorer Connery Attwell and Clubman Charlie Thomas.

The ladies team winners were: Managers Player Georgia Perkins, Players’ Player Liz Darby, Young Player Abbie Vickers, Top Goalscorer Morgan Smith and Clubman Christina Storey.

The club’s Ambassador Award went to Bill Knowles.

l Friday June 3 was the turn of the youngest members of the club, Under 7s to Under 11s.

Awards went to:

Under 7s - Manager’s Player Harvey King, Most Improved Player Rocco Cook, Clubman Leon Beynon-Pearce.

Under 9s – Mariners, Manager’s Player Shawn Dunne, Most Improved Player Riley Willis; Pirates, Manager’s Player Lennon Sowden, Most Improved Player Jobe Donachie; Under 9s Clubman Jonah Hopkins.

Under 10s - Mariners, Manager’s Player Louis Burge, Most Improved Player Ethan Long; Pirates, Manager’s Player Luke Hill, Most Improved Player Zac Millett; Under 10s Clubman Matthew Hole.

Under 11s - Manager’s Player Oliver Reaney, Most Improved Player Tommy Robinson, Players’ Player Harvey Lovell, Clubman, Alex Wagner.

Winners are pictured below. The Under 11s won the Taunton Youth League Fairplay Award and Sam Jackson is pictured with the trophy.

With the future for youth football looking good, the club are always on the lookout for new players and new volunteers in all the teams from Year Two to adults, and if children from Reception and Year One would like to go along and do some training they are welcome.

The club are currently looking for players for the Under 16, 14 and 9 age groups and adult volunteers to run the Under 9 team.

They would also like some more girls to join to create a girls team’s, Years Four and Five especially.
