MINEHEAD and Watchet Town both have away ties in the opening round of the Uhlsport Premier and First Division KO Cup this coming weekend (Sat, Sept 20).
Minehead, who bounced back to form with an 8-1 home win over Keynsham Town Reserves last Saturday, play away to Wrington Redhill who are lying eighth in the first division.
“If we can keep our front five together I can only see us going forward,” said Minehead boss Craig Carr. “We need to have the likes of Fin Haran, Guy Burns, Toby Wagborn, Olly Morris and Will Voss playing regularly. They’re key players in our side.”
Minehead go into the tie having won only two of their six league games, but Carr is confident his team will continue to improve on this record in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile Watchet, who returned to action after a three-week break last weekend, play away to Clevedon United who are lying seventh in the Premier Division.
The Watchet club’s spokesman Nick Sully said: “We’ll have a few missing this weekend but there are a few players returning which, hopefully, will include Eben Harding who hasn’t played this season.”
Watchet lost 4-0 at home to Premier Division leaders Nailsea United last weekend, a result which was probably acceptable following the West Somerset club’s problems in recent weeks.
There is a full programme of matches in the Taunton Saturday League with Porlock playing away to Dunwear United in the Premier Division, while Alcombe Rovers entertain Norton Fitzwarren in Division One.
In the second division, Porlock Reserves are home to Dunwear United Reserves, while Minehead Colts and Watchet Town Reserves have away fixtures - against North Petherton Reserves and Dulverton Town respectively.
Somerset Sunday League fixtures include: Division One - AFC Dunster v Hulan, Trinity Rangers v Carr Crusaders. Division Two: Cotford Rovers v Williton Sunday, Hinton St George v Carhampton Rovers.
