MINEHEAD’S final home match of the season saw them comfortably dispose of mid-table opponents Congresbury 5-0 on Saturday.
The sides were meeting for the first time every, and the Blues gave a rousing performance which could easily have seen them score double figures.
After two attempts in the opening minute by the visitors, strikers Max Smith and Damian Redman both missed half-chances inside the six-yard box as Minehead settled.
Just three minutes in, a solo run by Jack Furse took him past three opponents and he set up Smith for the opening goal.
Congresbury keeper Reece Sullivan made a fine reflex save from Redman’s shot as the home side kept up the pressure, but he couldn’t stop Furse’s shot from outside the box after he had beaten his marker.
Minehead continued to pepper the Congresbury goal but couldn’t add to their 2-0 lead before the break.
However, within ten seconds of the restart, they scored their third without their visitors touching the ball, Smith rising superbly to head home Harry Scatchard’s centre.
Furse made it 4-0 15 minutes from the end and completed his hat-trick with a half volley shortly after.
But for keeper Sullivan, who made at least a dozen fine saves in the match to keep out Minehead’s rampant front line , the scoreline would have told a very sorry story.
The Gerry Hatrick man of the match was Jack Furse.
Minehead: Sam Tarr, Matty Ronan, Matt Cracknell, Stephen Lynch, Mike Mullen (cap), Mike Graddon, Andy Gubb, Harry Scatchard, Max Smith, Jack Furse, Damion Redman, subs Felix Ndiomo, Charlie Melvin-Sparks, Grant Hodgson (all used).
