MINEHEAD Football Club’s final end of season awards evening was held last Friday for the oldest youth team, the under 16s.

As it was the last time the group would be together after ten years, the evening was full of memories, thanks and some goodbyes.

All the squad were given a memento trophy detailing the years they had played for Minehead AFC Youth, with several having been with the team from the age of six.

Manager Mark Vickers and coach Paul Matcham spoke about each boy, remembering good times, funny times and the progress they have made.

Individual awards went to Harry David (manager’s player of the year), Callum Barnfield (players’ player of the year), Beau Clancy-Winter (most improved player), Harry Kivell (clubman of the year) and Robbie Davies (top scorer).

An additional clubman award was given to Sarah Vickers for all the help and organising she has done over the past eight years for the team.

Many of the players will return next season to play in the newly-formed under 18 team which will play in the Somerset Under 18 League, which is managed by Taunton Youth League.

They will play on Sunday afternoons, and any players from the team’s two-year age group wishing to join or return to football would be welcome - contact Mark or Sarah Vickers on 01643 709648.
