WIVELISCOMBE suffered a heavy 186-run away defeat against Taunton Deane 3rd XI in the third division of the Somerset Cricket League in their latest match.

The Deane, who chose to bat first, piled up 326-5 in their 40 overs with opener Jack Perry being their star batter with 133, which included 20 fours and a six. Leon Dunne scored 61, Jack Monsey 35 while Dave Jessop was 40 not out.

James Hayward snapped up 2-50 while Charlie Thorne finished with figures of 2-49.

Despite a bright start with 56 runs being scored before losing a wicket, Wiveliscombe were bowled out for 140 with Nick Farrant (21), Jake Woodward (29) and Stuart Denyer (36) being the only batters to hit double figures.

James Tier led the Deane’s bowling attack with 5-21 while Benny Jessop took 2-16.

Defeat leaves Wiveliscombe third from bottom with four games to play.
