A BUSY week was in prospect for the Seniors at Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club who started off with a medalford scorpion.

In a close competition the winning team of Mike Kelly, Richard Austwick and Nigel Trevelyan posted a score of -6. In second place with -4 were David Atcherley-Symes, John Perkins and Peter Allerton while Dave Ball, Neville Parsons and Tony Connolly were third with -3.

The midweek white tee medal also drew a large entry. Martin Hole was the decisive winner, recording an excellent nett 65. Second place went to Peter Chapple with nett 69 while Malcolm Bruce took third spot on countback with nett 70 ahead of Sandy Lyons.

The final round (Round 5) of the Marshall Cup was played on Friday where the best aggregated three nett medal scores would decide the winner. The winner of Round 5 itself was Richard Austwick with nett 69 followed by Sandy Lyons (nett 71) and Roger Green (nett 72).

The overall winner of the Marshall Cup with an aggregate nett score of 210 was Bob Arthington. Second place with nett 214 was claimed by Malcolm Bruce with Roger Green in third position with nett 216.

Many congratulations go to Bob for an excellent performance over the five rounds and to all the winners in what is always a much sought after cup competition.

Meanwhile, the Seniors’ Championship has taken place at the Minehead club - a 36-hole medal competition played over two days. Steve Lawrence (1) led after Round 1 with a gross 70 and returned a 74 in Round 2 to not only win the championship, but regain the title he won last year.

The nett leaderboard was headed by Mark Walton (23) with rounds of 70 and 65.

Mike Nichols (12) won the Over 70s category with rounds of 83 and 78.
