SOMERSET Pathway teams have continued to enjoy success in the ECB Competitions during which there have been some impressive performances, one of which was Zach Vukusic’s 5 for 33 in an 18-run win against Glamorgan Under 18s at Pontaddulais.
Choosing to bat first Somerset slipped to 29 for 3 in the seventh over before Sam Price and Nicholas Watson added 75 for the fourth wicket, when the former was out for 39.
Watson then shared a partnership of 49 for the fifth wicket with Harvey Coleman when both were out in quick succession, the former for 17 and Watson for 64 off 72 balls with 9 fours. Vukusic helped to add 62 for the seventh wicket before he was dismissed for 29 leaving Will MacDonald unbeaten on 47 and Somerset 232 all out.
Glamorgan were bowled out for 213 in 44.1 overs, Vukusic claiming 5 for 33 from 7.1 overs while Harvey Richards ended with 3 for 41 off 10 overs.
In the ECB Girls Under 18 County One Day Cup, Somerset played Dorset at Dorchester where batting first the hosts were bowled out for 195 in 44.1 overs, with Verity Clark, Alice Jaloszynski, Sophie Pickering and Laila Moldedina each taking two wickets.
When Somerset replied they found themselves 76 for 4, of which Katie Rowe contributed 30, before Sophie Pickering with 35 and Erin Davidson (16) added 69 for the fifth, after which Alicia Pyle (29) helped see the visitors to 198 for 8 in the 34th over.
Somerset Girls Under 16s played against their Oxfordshire counterparts in the ECB County Cup at Cokethorpe where after opting to bat they posted 334 for 7 from their 50 overs. Isobel Glyn Jones made 51 off 62 balls with 10 fours to see the visitors to 124 for 5 before Arabella Goldfinch who hit 59 off 49 balls with 7 fours and a six and Rose Grant Peterkin with 56 off 43 balls with 4 fours added 121 for the sixth wicket.
An unbroken stand of 86 for the eighth wicket between Grace Savider with 39 and Amy Court 27 helped Somerset to their imposing total.
When Oxfordshire replied they were all out for 196 in 45.4 overs, Megan Clark ending with 3 for 25 and Matilda Parfitt claiming 3 for 38.
Meanwhile Somerset Boys Under 18s played a 3-day friendly against Yorkshire at Weetwood where batting first the home side were dismissed for 299 in 66.1 overs, Vukusic taking 2 for 48 while Mo Kaleem claimed 2 for 65 off 17 overs.
When the visitors replied they amassed 443 all out in 93.5 overs, thanks to an opening stand of 153 between Bertie Michael who made 77 from 97 balls with 11 fours and Ben Church who scored 73 off 91 with 9 fours and one 6. Vukusic made 75 from 99 balls with seven 4s and 4 sixes, James Theedom hit 67 off 80 balls with 11 fours and Harvey Coleman 47.
Batting for a second time 144 in arrears Oscar Coleman claimed two early wicket before Yorkshire recovered to reach 255 all out in 72,3 overs, Coleman ending with 4 for 37 off 13 while Kaleem took 3 for 50 off 17..
Somerset reached 114 for 2 to win by 8 wickets, Michael making 37 and Church ending 39 not out.
