SOMERSET take an enforced break from County Championship action for the next month for The Hundred to take place - a period during which the Cidermen will be competing in the Metro Bank One Day Cup .
For the 50 over competition this summer they will be without eight of their first team regulars who will be taking part in The Hundred,
After playing 11 of their 14 fixtures in Division One of the Rothesay County Championship, Somerset find themselves in third place with 149 points, Nottinghamshire are second with166 and reigning champions Surrey at the head with 175 - 26 ahead of Lewis Gregory’s team.
In their final match before the enforced break Somerset travelled to Trent Bridge to take on Nottinghamshire, the team immediately above them in the table.
This was a game Somerset went into needing a win to gain ground on the two teams above them, but in the end they had to settle for a draw from which they took 12 points.
After being put into bat Somerset slumped to 25 for 3 in the 13th over, before two home grown boys James Rew and Tom Abell added 313 together - a new fourth wicket record for the county against any other team, beating the previous best of 310 set in 1980 between Peter Denning and Ian Botham against Gloucestershire at the County Ground, Taunton.
The partnership between Abell and Rew is also Somerset’s highest ever wicket partnership against Notts, beating the 290 between Craig Kieswetter and James Hildreth for the fifth wicket in 2011.
Abell was out for 156 which came off 254 balls and included 19 fours, while Rew made 166 from 278 deliveries and hit 14 fours and three 6s. Somerset were eventually all out for 438 which came from 132. 3 overs.
Nottinghamshire, in reply, scored 544, Jake Ball, playing against his former county, claiming 3 for 76, while there were two each for Josh Davey and Gregory.
Batting for a second time and needing 106 to make the hosts bat again Somerset slipped to 32 for 2 before Tom Lammonby with 38 and Rew with 21 saw the visitors to 100 when Lammonby perished.
Rew went three runs later for 27 before Abell with 51 and an unbeaten 48 from Tom Banton (43 not out) ensured Somerset held out for a draw.
Somerset open their Metro Bank campaign with an away match against Middlesex at Radlett. They then return to Taunton to play Durham on Friday 8th August in a day/ night match starting at 2pm, two days after which they host Lancashire on Sunday 10th August at 11am.
Somerset then travel to play against Yorkshire at York on Thursday 14th August and then come back to Taunton to face Warwickshire on Sunday 17th August starting at 11am.
The next two games are away against Sussex on Thursday 21st August at Kent on 24th August.
Somerset’s final group match is against Northants at Taunton on Tuesday 26th August starting at 11am.
The Cidermen play their next championship match against Yorkshire at Taunton on Monday 8th September, before hosting Hampshire a week later. Their final match of the four day season is against Essex at Chelmsford on Wednesday 24th September. All September championship matches start at 10.30am.
