WIVELISCOMBE are up to fifth place in Division Three of the Somerset Cricket League after gaining a 45-run home win over Bishops Hull in a high-scoring game.

Star of the show was Richard Morrison who scored 138 before finishing with the figures of 5-17.

Put into bat first, Wiveliscombe scored 237-4 in their 40 overs with Morrison, who opened the innings with George (38 retired hurt), hitting 19 fours and three sixes. Stuart Denyer also made a run-a-minute 33 in Wiveliscombe’s impressive score. Travis Green, Ben Wellman and Morgan Chanter all picked up a wicket.

The Taunton side replied with 192 all out in 38.2 overs with Jacob Tyson top scoring with 70 before being bowled by Morrison. Paul Holman scored 23 not out and opener Chanter 28. James Hayward also took 2-37. Wiveliscombe collected 35 points for their victory while Bishops Hull received 13.

Wiveliscombe trail the leaders North Curry by 41 points, both sides having played the same number of games.

Curry were without a game last weekend, while second-placed Shaftsbury Road closed the gap on the leaders with an eight-wicket away success against Taunton Deane 3rd XI.

Wiveliscombe will be looking to maintain their fine form on Saturday, June 20, when they play away to Middlezoy who are lying eighth in the table.

North Curry are back in action when they play away to Frome 2nd XI while Shaftsbury Road visit Bishops Hull.
